Surprise #1 - getting pregnant wasn't as easy as we thought!
Surprise #2 - IVF was the route we would have to peruse if we wanted a biological child!
Surprise #3 - IVF wasn't all fun and games!
Surprise #4 - We chose adoption as the way we wanted to build our family!
Surprise #5 - We were going to adopt a baby from China!
Surprise # 6 - China was a 2+ year wait for a baby!
Surprise #7 - Vietnam is the route we are pursuing to add a baby to our family!
We started our adoption process in August 2006. We went to the seminars and workshops. Found ourselves a social worker to do our home study. Gathered the references, medicals, financial statements, police checks, fingerprint checks, and other necessary paperwork. We met with our social worker over 2 months and finished the home study in December 2006. Called Children's Bridge (our agency) to find out how much money we needed to send them to get our file to China when we were told the wait times for China had significantly increased.
They told us about Vietnam and after a couple of days, we decided that was the route we wanted to go. So, within a week, our home study was changed, new forms were filled out for Vietnam, and off our dossier went to Children's Bridge. It arrived there today and they have begun the translation process while we await approval from the Ministry.
Children's Bridge has told us to expect a 9 to 18 month wait time for a referral .... let's see how that pans out!

It is amazing how you can be on one course in life, and then in a blink of an eye it can all turn around.
Congrats on completing the home study....and I hope Vietnam proves to have a shorter wait time...........
